Director’s Notes

Lafayette High School is alive with “The Sound of Music.” We are proud to bring to life on our stage a time-honored show. This production is one of the most beloved musicals of all times! Everyone seems to know the words to “Maria,” “Do, Re, Mi!,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “Climb Every Mountain,”  and many, many other tunes. Just try it out. How many do you know? Check yourself. I will wait……….See?  You do know so many of these songs!  Also, did you know Sound of Music is based on a true story? As I began this journey, I did not!

As always, this show is very special to me and those 70+ students involved, and it should be. We have all put in hundreds of hours rehearsing, dancing, building, painting, setting lights, preparing mics, etc. Yet, this production is more than just another special show. In this particular musical, I have 19 seniors. Nineteen folks!  That is more than a forth of my kiddos. That means, when these phenomenal students graduate, I will be hard press to find a replacement stage manager, sound technician, light technician, not to mention a multitude of dancers, singers, and actors. I do not even want to think about the hole they will leave in the LHS Theatre Department and in my life personally. It will be difficult.

However, there is one great aspect to having so many seniors in a production. They all know what to do. This is truly their show! It has been a rare treat to work with these amazing individuals, both on and off stage. The 18 seniors are what makes Lafayette High School, LHS Theatre Department, and my life great! I owe so much to these kids! They are truly special to me.

With all of that out of the way, please sit back and enjoy a marvelous evening of music, dance, and acting. I am excited to show you what your children have been working to create. It should be one heck of a ride!
