Contest’s are Coming for Lafayette

To prepare for large ensemble contest we rehearse every class period. We started in January. For solos students have had after school rehearsals to prepare for two solos that they will perform on April 1st at Central High School.

Contest is a competition between local and surrounding area schools. They compete for scores on how well they perform their two pieces and sight reading. One is the best score you can get and the worst is five. Everyone starts at a three and they either move up or down based on how the judges think they did.

It is important for our choir to show how well we can sing, and prove ourselves as a whole. We work on it for a long time, and hope to do well. Not only is it important to us to do well, but also to do better than the other schools. For soloists, their scores are important to them because if they want a career in music it would be good for them when applying to colleges or scholarships.

On March 29th, at 7:00 pm. At the pre contest, all of the high schools in town go to Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church to perform our songs in front of them and parents before we go to contest. Solo/Ensemble Music Contest is April 1 at Central High School. State Large Ensemble Contest is all day on April 9th, at Northwest Missouri State University.
