6am came bright and early for your LHS pommies as they begin their first day of practice for this year’s basketball season Monday, the morning of the 3rd of November. Their first dance of the season will be performed with the all city pom’s group (Including Benton, Central and Leblond) during the 2015 basketball jamboree, taking place on November 20th at the St. Joseph Civic arena. The girls will have 3 weeks to perfect their moves before performing for the city.
The dance will be choreographed this year by the pom’s team at Bishop LeBlond High School. When interviewing some of our pom’s earlier this week, I noticed that they seemed particularly excited about the upcoming dance. Not only because everyone has so much fun at jamboree, but because of the choice of choreography for this year as well as the type of music. LeBlond is well known for their more conservative, jazz moves. This year, they decided to change it up a little bit with a Hip-hop routine. Senior Jillian Lysaght says, “I was totally excited when I found out we were doing a hip-hop dance. I definitely did not see that coming from them.
Overall, all of the girls are looking forward to this year’s jamboree. Our senior poms have a bittersweet feeling towards their last high school jamboree as an LHS Pom. Senior Ashlyn Frye says, “I can’t believe this is really the last time we will all be dancing on the floor together. Not all of us girls always get along the greatest, but dancing is something that is always able to bring all of us together. My high school jamborees have definitely been an amazing experience.” So please come help us celebrate this very bittersweet moment with the 7 senior poms dancers as well as the other girls from the other dancers.
